Volunteer Osama during one of the door-to-door visits in Teir-Ma’aleh, northern rural Homs, Syrian Arab Republic. Before the COVID-19, children across the world went to school and played with their friends as usual. With the outbreak of the pandemic, school was closed and children were asked to keep social distance. The UNICEF-supported child space, where they used to play and learn was also closed. To cheer up the children in Teir-Ma’aleh, Osama and other volunteers visited their home, gave them psychosocial support and carried out activities. Since the beginning of the visit, children and parents knock on Osama’s door almost every day and ask when will the team visit them again. “I’m overwhelmed to see how happy children and parents are, with what we are doing; we’ve succeeded in helping ease some of the pressure they are under,” Osama said with a smile lighting up his face.
